Coalition of 54 organisations tells Croatian Ministry: No to mixing and burning waste!

The 'Zero Waste Croatia' coalition, made up of 54 environmental NGOs lead by Zelena akcija / Friends of the Earth Croatia has today submitted joint comments on the draft national Waste Management Plan 2015-2021. The groups are calling on the Ministry of Environmental Protection to give up the concept of mixing and incinerating waste and instead to base the plan on reducing, re-using and recycling waste. Such measures, based on the zero waste concept, would be in line with the waste hierarchy, protect the environment, and avoid harming people's health.

We invite citizens and institutions to submit comments on the proposal of the Waste Management Plan of the Republic of Croatian, located at a public hearing until Tuesday, October 20 In order to facilitate sending comments, we have prepared comments with which all interested parties can form their own or simply forward the comments to the Green Action mail Ministry pgo@mzoip.hr. Proposal Plan is a continuation of the bad and senseless idea of mixing and burning of waste that harm the environment and increase monthly bills for waste.

School of Sustanability 2015.

From 12th – 19th July 2015, Zelena akcija/FoE Croatia held a first summer camp “School of Sustainability” on island Solta, as part of the EU project „School of Sustainability in the European Year of Development 2015 and beyond“ which runs for 3 years and it gathers 23 partners from European Union, especially Friends of the Earth network which is the largest network of environmental organisations in the world.

Zelena akcija /FoE Croatia activists organised a strategic regional meeting with 10 young people from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia which took place in our Solar Academy on Šolta Island on August 3rd-8th.

Secular Franciscan Order and S.O.S. Adriatic against oil drilling!

The Franciscan Secular Order and the S.O.S. Adriatic coalition held a joint press conference on June 19th 2015 in Zagreb where they presented the conclusions of the encyclical in which Pope Francis calls for urgent action to combat climate change, and sent a message to the Croatian Government to withdraw from the harmful project of exploration and exploitation of oil in the Adriatic Sea.

First Zero Waste in Croatia!

Zelena akcija/Friends of the Earth Croatia has today published a study analysing the waste management system of the Lower Medjimurje region made for communal services company PRE-KOM d.o.o. from Prelog in northern Croatia. The analysis shows that the town of Prelog has become national leader in separated waste collection, increasing the share of separated waste from 22% to 60%in the first four months of this year, and that the whole Lower Medjimurje region will soon be among the best European examples in sustainable waste management if it implements the recommendations in the analysis.

World's biggest environmental organisations support the S.O.S. Adriatic campaign

Today (15th May 2015) the S.O.S. Adriatic coalition held a press conference in Opatija, Croatia, where Greenpeace International, Friends of the Earth International and the Global Campaign to Demand Climate Justice gave support to the campaign against exploration and exploitation of oil in the Adriatic Sea.

Ombla must be protected, not flooded!

Yesterday the consultancy firms Oikon and Geonatura presented a new nature impact assessment study for the environmentally and economically risky Ombla hydropower plant in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The study had been commissioned by project promoter HEP at the request of the Ministry of Environmental and Nature Protection and was met with a full hall of members of the public.
