The "Walk for Lika" protest goes beyond the specific case of Gospić, it exposes a systemic waste management crisis!

As one of the largest demonstrations in modern Croatian history, the protest held under the slogan “Walk for Lika, walk for Croatia!”, and organized by the civic initiative “Gospić is Our Home”, brought together approximately 30,000 people from across the country. Citizens recognized that this is not merely a local issue for Gospić, but a systemic failure that directly impacts us all. They gathered to demand their fundamental right to a clean and healthy environment as a prerequisite for the health of present and future generations.

Zelena akcija marks a historic, double victory in the fight for public space and the right to defend the environment! After two full decades of resistance, the erasure of accommodation capacities on Mount Srđ above Dubrovnik from the spatial plan has been proposed. At the same time, after eight years of exhaustion in the courts, a final and binding acquittal has been rendered for the responsible persons of Zelena akcija.

For the second time this decade, Europe is in an oil and gas crisis, once again highlighting the danger of dependence on imported fossil fuels. The diversification strategy promoted by the EU for decades has shown its limits, and the inherent vulnerability to market disruptions and price hikes remains. As a result, the EU has rightly identified that the solution to the crisis is to wean itself off of fossil fuels, and to push forward with electrification and renewables.

"We refuse to become a European province for the dirty industrial production of ultra-processed food!" was the sharp message from the massive protest "NO! to the chicken eco-bomb," organized on Saturday, February 21, in Zagreb. The event was coordinated by Zelena akcija/Friends of the Earth Croatia, Animal Friends Croatia, and four civic initiatives from various municipalities in the Sisačko-moslavačka County of Croatia.
