Green Action demands immediate ratification of the Kyoto protocol

Green Action demands immediate ratification of the Kyoto protocol and the activation of the program encouraging energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.

U has established a new, more radical and energetic politic. Its main goals are 20% more energy efficiency, with the reduction of total energy spending by 13%, and the stimulation of renewals, which would have to secure at least 20% of total energy by the year 2020. For Croatia, a country with great potential for the use of renewable energy sources, this is a big opportunity for economic development (for example this sector may secure anywhere from 10000 to 20000 new working placements) and substitution for fossil oils, as well as reducing pollutions.

Unfortunately, a lack of political will and pressure from monopolists  from INA and HEP currently blocks activation of the ambitious program to stimulate energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources.

This temporary unwelcome situation can be explained in the following lines:

  • Croatia, among the USA, Australia and Kazakhstan, is the only country that has yet to ratify Kyoto
  •  the bizarre stoppage of the installation of solar collectors in Zagreb
