Third year of "Solar Academy" - working on the future
After the encouraging experiences of the last two years' activities, Green Action has organised the third international workcamp on the island of Solta. From July 04th - 18th, more than 20 young volunteers from all over Europe will join to work on the buildings that will host the "Solta Solar Academy" - a regional information and education center on renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.
After the encouraging experiences of the last two years' activities, Green Action has organised the third international workcamp on the island of Solta. From July 04th-18th, more than 20 young volunteers from all over Europe will join to work on the buildings that will host the "Solta Solar Academy" - a regional information and education center on renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.
Although this project is still in an early phase, we have already been able to host the first big seminar at the site of the Solar Academy: Last month, 20 participants of the International Energy Brigades meeting used the facilities at Vela Straza and the inspiring atmosphere of Solta to coordinate their work on energy efficiency in South and East Europe (see photo).
The volunteers of this year's workcamp will help us to continue with the renovation of the buildings and the preparation of the surroundings. But of course, this is only one aspect of the camp: Common leisure activities, workshops on environmental issues, free time for personal and cultural exchange will be at least as important as the work. Having fun and doing something meaningful at the same time - it's possible!
After the fortnight of international workcamp, a domestic workcamp will take place on Solta, bringing together young activists of Green Action and other croatian environmental organisations, and giving them the opportunity to exchange their experiences and plan future actions and campaigns.
